Course organization is important! A well-structured course helps students get to the resources they need faster.

Did you know there are multiple ways to rearrange course material in OpenLMS? 

‘Edit Mode’ Toggle:

In the top right corner of your course in OpenLMS, there is a toggle titled ‘Edit mode’. By default, it should be toggled off (gray); click it to toggle Editing mode on (red).

Move with Edit Mode On:

When ‘Edit mode’ is toggled on, you can move entire sections and activities within your course just by clicking and dragging the section or activity within the table of contents (TOC) and releasing the click where you want to place it. A black line will appear where the content will land.

Move with Edit Mode Off:

You can still move content and sections around your course with ‘Edit Mode’ off. However, the menu for accessing the move varies depending on whether you are selecting an Activity (within a section) or the entire section.

To move an Activity:

  1. Find the gray, downward-facing carrot in the top-right of any Activity, click it, and a menu will open.
  2. Within the dropdown menu, find the ‘Move’ option; it will contain a grey cross with arrows on each end. Click it. Move option in the Activity dropdown menu
  3. The ‘Move Activity’ box pops up. It shows the item that you are trying to move in gray italics. It also notes that wherever you click, the Activity will land after your chosen selection. Please keep that in mind.
  4. Click the destination you would like to place the activity. Selecting a destination to place the activity
  5. The Activity will be moved to that location. Activity successfully moved to new location

To move a section:

  • The process to move a section is very similar. The menu location is different, however. Please note that the very first section of your course cannot be moved. Nor can another section be placed above it.
  1. To move a Section while not in Edit mode, first click into the section you would like to move.
  2. Underneath the section title are three gray icons (an arrow pointing right, an eyeball, and three vertical dots). Click the gray arrow, and the ‘Move section’ pop-up appears. Move section pop-up triggered by the gray arrow icon
  3. Much like the ‘Move activity’ pop-up, the section that is being moved appears in gray italics, and the section will be placed after wherever you click. Section being moved shown in gray italics
  4. Click where you want to place the section and notice the change. Section moved to new location
